Power in Fiction

[edit]

I added a "fiction" section to better deal with the uses of power meaning magical powers and superhero powers. I've recently done a hundred or so disambiguations on power, and maybe 10% referred to those sorts of power. This section might be pushing NPOV, because some might consider it a condemnation of their religion or magical practices as ficticious...? I think it's okay as it stands, but if someone thinks it should be reworded, go ahead, just please don't leave out magical powers entirely, because it makes the disambig page more complete. - Stillnotelf 03:16, 9 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Merge to Power (physics)

[edit]

Please see Talk:Power (physics)#Merge from Power (disambiguation)#Physics, and explain any suggestions or objections there. --TantalumTelluride 00:53, 2 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Wow! That's an intimidating link. --TantalumTelluride 00:54, 2 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

This merge is now complete. --TantalumTelluride 16:45, 2 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Power

[edit]

Can we say energy crisis as power crisis? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 119.153.137.183 (talk) 14:56, 5 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Mathematics

[edit]

Can someone add a section of links to math articles? Mainly exponentials and power sets. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.126.207.212 (talk) 19:24, 19 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Done, partially anyway.202.180.108.82 (talk) 23:11, 22 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Example contrasting power, energy

[edit]

Some may find the example I plugged in at the start of the intro a bit out of place. OK. I did feel that a bit of less technical explanation is in order before the article dives into (eegad!) mathematical formulæ!—PaulTanenbaum (talk) 20:14, 29 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Oops! This thread belongs in Talk:Power_(physics)!

You don't think power is a worthy subject as a principle in its own right?

[edit]

Admittedly this is very close to the idea of political power. But surely there are articles on the nature of power as a principle, guided by philosophies of particular kinds of discretion. It would be a worthy subject of review and certainly knowledge, if knowledge is at all considered to have some kind of power. (Wikipedia has many articles on principles, such as peace and love to give two examples).

I agree that power as a philosophical principle deserves its own Wikipedia entry

[edit]

Power in a philosophical sense seems like a broader and deeper topic than power in a merely political or social sense, as the existing topic pages appear to discuss. Starchild (talk) 12:34, 28 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect Powah. You might want to participate in the redirect discussion if you have not already done so.

Originally Powah redirected here, bots moved it, and that resulted in it being nominated for deletion. Mathiastck (talk) 01:48, 11 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It's listed at https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/powah as an Eye dialect spelling of power. Mathiastck (talk) 01:51, 11 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Electricity and motor vehicles

[edit]

I've added Electricity to the top of the list, as that is one of the most common things people mean when they talk about "power". Anyone who has watched Jeremy Clarkson will also be familiar with the use of power in relation to motor vehicles - engine power - which should be added to the list although I'm unsure of the best place to do so.
