Confusion in the previous message- WAM

[edit]

Hello again, I believe the earlier message has created some confusion. If you have already submitted the details in the Google form, it has been accepted, you don't need to submit it again. The earlier reminder is for those who haven't yet submitted their Google form or if they any alternate way to provide their address. I apologize for creating the confusion. Thanks-Sailesh Patnaik

Question

[edit]

Hello Kober, I wanted to ask -- do you have access to the Georgian original of Leonti Mroveli's Chronicles, and would you be able to verify some questions I have, or if not, might you know somewhat who might be able to? Thanks a ton! --Calthinus (talk) 17:56, 4 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Calthinus: Hello and sorry for a late reply. Yes, I do have an access to the Georgian text and I would be happy to help you with that. Best, --KoberTalk 11:45, 22 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Great, and thanks for your help. I wanted to verify some things secondary sources-- mainly Amjad Jaimoukha -- said that Mroveli said. First up I guess is this one: that after the time of Alexander the Great, some "Chaldeans" "returned" to the Caucasus. Unfortunately I don't have a cite for where Mroveli might have said that. Do you by chance know if he did though? Thanks again,--Calthinus (talk) 15:52, 22 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Calthinus: Well, there is such a passage in Mroveli's chronicle, but it claims that the event occurred in the wake of Alexander's alleged invasion of the Caucasus, not after it. Also, the text does not imply that the alleged Chaldean migration was their "return": "Furthermore, other peoples, the K'aldeveli (=Chaldeans), had come, and they too had settled in K'art'li." (translation by Thomson 1996, p. 24).--KoberTalk 04:32, 23 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
And it doesn't mention anything about the K'aldeveli or some synonym having come from the Caucasus anywhere else, to your knowledge? --Calthinus (talk) 14:31, 23 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Calthinus: No, it does not mention anything like that. The chronicle makes only two more mentions of the Chaldeans, in both cases referring to the mutual enmity of the "Itrujan", the god of the Chaldeans, and Armazi, that of the Georgians. See Thomson, pp. 100, 106. I think Jaimoukha tries to prove too much by identifying the K'aldeveli of the Georgian sources with the Urartian migrants into the South Caucasian heartland. --KoberTalk 18:41, 23 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
That's what I was afraid of as well. Hence I why I was asking you. Some cleanup may be necessary. Thanks for your help. --Calthinus (talk) 19:14, 23 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Vakhushti

[edit]

Jaimoukha doesn't mention which specific work this came from, unfortunately. What did he say about the "Kakh" of Kakheti? If you don't have access that's fine, I will be removing this momentarily for the time being...--Calthinus (talk) 17:17, 26 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Calthinus: Well, "Kakh" is an enthnonym referring to the population of Kakheti. So, it naturally recurs multiple times in the works of Prince Vakhushti. Is there any specific passage that might be of interest to you? --KoberTalk 16:56, 29 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Well unfortunately Jaimoukha doesn't seem to have given any sort of page number. But what I'm interested in is where the "Kakh-Batsa" are discussed. Jaimoukha seems to equate these to the Kakh. Naturally I am... curious. --Calthinus (talk) 13:53, 30 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Calthinus: I checked Vakhushti's opus and failed to find any mention of "Kakh-Batsa". I was able to find only one passage discussing the possible connection between the Kakh (in the sense of the people of Kakheti) and the Nakh tribes. Immediately after describing geography of Kakheti and the adjacent mountainous valleys, Vakhushti asserts that "due to this" (that is, geographic proximity) the Kakhs claimed Dzurdzuks, Ghlighvi (~Ingush), and Kists as "theirs", but these tribes had broken away and did no more recognize these links:

გარნა სდებენ ამათ გამო კახნი ძურძუკთა, ღლიღუთა და ქისტთა თჳსად, გარნა მათ არა უწყიან ესე მიერ ჟამით, ოდეს განდგნენ.

--KoberTalk 15:13, 30 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Sadly I don't speak Georgian nor do I trust Google Translate for it, but Google Translate makes it look like this quote is about... caterpillars? Is that a metaphor? --Calthinus (talk) 16:16, 30 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, my bad... I forgot to include the translation. The quote reads: "For this reason [i.e., preceding description of geographic proximity], the Kakhs claimed the Dzurdzuks, Ghlighvi, and Kists as their own, but, as for now, they [i.e., the Dzurdzuks, Ghlighvi, and Kists] do not recognize this, since they have broken away." --KoberTalk 16:20, 30 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Okay I see that now with the Romanization. Amusing, Google translate thinks "dzurdzuk’ta, ghlighuta da kist’ta tŭisad" is "the cattle, and the caterpillars, and the cisterns" :). Thanks Kober! --Calthinus (talk) 16:28, 30 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Heh, that's really amusing :) You are welcome. Don't hesitate to drop me a line should you have further questions. --KoberTalk 16:33, 30 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Kober, so I am working on gradually replacing Jaimoukha with others. He's highly regarded in many things but I think at this rate I'd prefer alternatives in the early history realm, but total deletion would cripple certain pages. Anchabadze works for many things, as will Diakonoff and Starostin, and Nichols, and Tsaroieva for the folklore. Many Georgian authors have contributed a lot on Nakh (pre)history and might be much better -- Gamrekeli and Melikishvili immediately come to mind -- might you have access to any of these? Cheers! --Calthinus (talk) 21:41, 7 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

In particular, Melikishvilli's work on proposed Nakh origins in the South Caucasus. --Calthinus (talk) 22:06, 7 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Calthinus: Hello. Unfortunately, I don't have these sources at hand right now, but I will see what I can do in the near future. I think Melikishvili's 1998 book in Georgian perfectly summarizes all his previous theories on Caucasian prehistory. I will try to get that volume. Best, --KoberTalk 18:35, 10 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

No rush -- I'm sure we're both busy guys. Thanks again for your help! --Calthinus (talk) 18:37, 10 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

People of the Sasanian Empire. Similar to "Byzantine people of XYZ descent". - LouisAragon (talk) 12:07, 13 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Then why not to name it "People of the Sasanian Empire of Georgian descent", especially given that the parental category is "People of the Sasanian Empire"? In your example "Byzantine" refers to the state, not the dynasty. As I see it, "Sasanian people" =/= "People of the Sasanian Empire". --KoberTalk 12:16, 13 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Question/help

[edit]

Hi Kober. Does any Georgian government agency have data on how many citizens of Armenia live in Georgia? What about Armenian-born population? ----Երևանցի talk 14:26, 17 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Yerevantsi: Hello. I surfed through GeoStat and the only relevant information I found was a file containing annual immigrant stats for the 2012-2018 period according to the country of origin (incl. Armenia): "Number of immigrants and emigrants by sex and citizenship". The Georgian law defines an immigrant as a person of foreign nationality who has crossed into Georgia during the past 12 months and has spent at least 183 days in the country. --KoberTalk 14:48, 17 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Can you find data on ethnicity and religious affiliation by district (I could only find by provinces) from the 2014 census? ----Երևանցի talk 15:14, 17 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Yerevantsi: You are welcome! Here you can find all sorts of data from the 2014 census, such as "Total population by regions and ethnicity" (which includes individual municipalities) and "Population by regions and religion". And yes, I finally found the data regarding "Population by country of birth","Population by citizenship country", and related stats. --KoberTalk 15:24, 17 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Kober, I "found" you through the sound file for Tbilisi you uploaded. As a native Georgian you know best how to pronounce your capital city. And that's my question: when I hear you, I am quite sure you pronounce it "Tvilisi" with V like Victor and not with B like Bob. But in the english Tbilisi lemma the IPA phonetic script is shown as [tʰbilisi]. Shouldn't it be [tʰvilisi], or didn't I hear your voice correctly? I would be thankful if you helped me. So long, --MedMan (talk) 20:55, 4 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Need your insight

[edit]

Per this edit[2], EternalJin has contended that Georgian figures can be found in Alexander Mikaberidze, Historical Dictionary of Georgia, 148-149. Needless to say, Mikaberidze makes no mention of Georgian troop figures at Aspindzapage 149.

Do you have any sourced figures for Aspindza? --Kansas Bear (talk) 00:20, 10 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Kansas Bear: Well, I just checked the book on Aspindza by Prof. Valerian Macharadze published in Georgian in 1957 (p. 68). This is the most comprehensive treatment of the subject ever published. According to Macharadze, various sources put the number of Turkish-Lesgian troops at 4,000 , 6,000 or 8,000. The latter figure is based on an account of Turkish POWs, who also reported that around 4,000 were killed and wounded. There were around 60 documented Turkish-Lesgian POWs. The Georgians had a 7,000-strong force, with 3 cannons, at the beginning of the campaign, but no more than 5,000 were reportedly available at Aspindza. Their Russian allies, 1,200 soldiers with 10-12 cannons, defected just before the battle. The Georgian casualties are described as "light" without going into details.--KoberTalk 15:36, 10 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much Kober!--Kansas Bear (talk) 16:09, 10 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Lede of this article

[edit]

A certain user (conveniently logging out when its get too hot under his/her feat) has been trampling on the lede of this article.[3] Right now its unreadible, and packed with WP:UNDUE/POV. - LouisAragon (talk) 01:38, 4 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I don't find it unreadable but it is more of a cherrypicked version of Georgia's political history rather than the ethnic history of Georgians which is not that good. The entire article, I would say, is in a deplorable condition. I'll surely get to that article one day, but not right now... --KoberTalk 09:19, 4 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

OrphanReferenceFixer: Help on reversion

[edit]

Hi there! I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. Recently, you reverted my fix to Shuakhevi Municipality.

If you did this because the references should be removed from the article, you have misunderstood the situation. Most likely, the article originally contained both <ref name="foo">...</ref> and one or more <ref name="foo"/> referring to it. Someone then removed the <ref name="foo">...</ref> but left the <ref name="foo"/>, which results in a big red error in the article. I replaced one of the remaining <ref name="foo"/> with a copy of the <ref name="foo">...</ref>; I did not re-insert the reference to where it was deleted, I just replaced one of the remaining instances. What you need to do to fix it is to make sure you remove all instances of the named reference so as to not leave any big red error.

If you reverted because I made an actual mistake, please be sure to also correct any reference errors in the page so I won't come back and make the same mistake again. Also, please post an error report at User talk:AnomieBOT so my operator can fix me! If the error is so urgent that I need to be stopped, also post a message at User:AnomieBOT/shutoff/OrphanReferenceFixer. Thanks! Hi there, I'm sorry to do this again, but I've got the Sergo Ordzhonikidze article at FAC, and I'm afraid it may be archived unless it gets some more attention soon. Notice

The article Othar Shalikashvili has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The coverage (references, external links, etc.) does not seem sufficient to justify this article passing Wikipedia:General notability guideline and the more detailed Wikipedia:Notability (biographies) requirement (nor WP:NSOLDIER). WP:BEFORE did not reveal any significant coverage on Gnews, Gbooks or Gscholar. If you disagree and deprod this, please explain how it meets them on the talk page here in the form of "This article meets criteria A and B because..." and ping me back through WP:ECHO or by leaving a note at User talk:Piotrus. Thank you.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Family Jaqeli

[edit]

Hello User:Kober. I have a doubt with a member of this family. The character is Qvarqvare II Jaqeli. I say that because some articles mention that he was Bagrat I of Imereti’s father-in-law. But, it happened in the 14th century. On the other hand, the article about Qvarqvare II says that he was born in the 15th century. I thought that Qvarqvare I Jaqeli was Bagrat I’s father-in-law, but the article about him doesn’t mention if he had a female child. Could you explain me this, please? The "Vakhtang" seal (British Museum)

[edit]

Hi Kober, hope you're doing well. Am I right in saying that this stamp seal[5] does not refer to Vakhtang I of Iberia? If it actually does, it would fit good in several articles. This is what the British Museum tells:

"The Middle Persian inscription gives a personal name, initially read as Vartanake but more recently as Vaxtang which is also attested in Georgian and was that of a famous K'art'velian king whose biography survives as "The Life of Vaxtang": this particular seal belongs to a private individual rather than ruler however".

In the caption you added on Commons it states that it is "sometimes" identified with Vakhtang I.[6] Would be grateful if you could shed light on this. - LouisAragon (talk) 14:30, 17 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@LouisAragon: Hello. An attempt to identify the person depicted on the seal with Vakhtang has been made, but it is almost impossible to prove it. This is just a conjecture. If I am allowed to be POVish here, on my talk page, I consider that a wishful thinking. --KoberTalk 20:21, 21 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

--KoberTalk 15:27, 26 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Armeno-Georgian War

[edit]

Hello Kober, would you potentially be interested in helping out with Georgian, preferably academic sources on that topic ? TheMightyGeneral (talk) 13:44, 31 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@TheMightyGeneral: hello. Unfortunately, I cannot get involved in the actual discussion due to the current constraints of real life, but I can help with the sources. You can use international authors such as F. Kazemzadeh, The Struggle for Transcaucasia (Oxford, 1951) and D. M. Lang, A Modern History of Georgia (New York, 1962). If you need them, just drop me a line.
As for Georgian authors, the best (and pretty balanced) treatment of political aspects of the Armeno-Georgian conflict is 2002. Unfortunately I don't have it at hand right now. Military details are best covered in the oft-cited dissertation by Archil Chachkhiani, which you can find here. You can also refer to this article by Prof. Mamatsashvili. Besides, there is a succinct treatment of the war in the encyclopedic 2018. The book is available online and that specific entry can be found on pp. 404-405. Hope this helps, --KoberTalk 07:54, 1 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Kober: thank you. Yeah I would ask for the Kazemzadeh and Lang ones too if that's okay with you, really any additional third party source will help. I appreciate the suggested Georgian ones. Do those meet WP:RS conditions ? thank you very much for the timely response. I would also mention your contribution on assisting with sources, unless you don't wish to. TheMightyGeneral (talk) 11:55, 1 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@TheMightyGeneral: You are welcome. Obviously, they are WP:RS. All these are academic publications by well-known authors and/or institutions. As for Kazemzadeh and Lang, please email me so as I could share them with you. I don't have any problem with my help being mentioned. I would, in fact, appreciate that. And I will join the discussion as time and energy permit. --KoberTalk 12:02, 1 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Kober: very well, I sent a mail. I will definitely mention you then. Your contribution would be very appreciated Kober, but naturaly real life takes priority. I understand that. Take care. TheMightyGeneral (talk) 12:30, 1 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

გიორგი V ბრწყინვალე/ George V of Georgia

[edit]

--KoberTalk 15:52, 29 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

II. --KoberTalk 17:41, 20 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Left half of a bas-relief from Opiza in Klarjeti, purportedly depicting Ashot II (now on display at the Art Museum of Georgia).

Claim of the biblical descent of the Bagrationi dynasty-ის ტექსტი: A more recent interpretation by the likes as Nodar Shoshiashvili and Wachtang Djobadze, however, suggests identification of the persons in question as a later curopalates Ashot (died 954) and this Ashot's elder brother David (died 937).
Claim of the biblical descent of the Bagrationi dynasty

აშოტი).--Lasha-george (talk) 10:29, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

გიორგი V ბრწყინვალე

[edit]

ITN recognition for Brent Renaud

[edit]

On 14 March 2022, In the news was updated with an item that involved the article Brent Renaud, which you updated. If you know of another recently created or updated article suitable for inclusion in ITN, please suggest it on the candidates page. Stephen 00:38, 14 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Noticed something interesting. For almost a decade, user "Roksanna"[8] and their sock account "Roxanna"[9]-[10] are trying to downplay the Georgian origins of Ibrahim Bey (Mamluk). Although high-quality Western sources such as EI3 and Alexander Mikaberidze state that Ibrahim Bey was of Georgian origins, said user vehemently insists on labeling such sources as "Georgian sources". Said user also tries to add outdated sources to the article, as part of their campaign to "nullify" the authenticity of the Georgian RS claim. If this user reverts again, they should be reported to ANI for long-term WP:TENDENTIOUS editing. - LouisAragon (talk) 22:21, 22 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Left a few more sources on the article's talk page.[11] - LouisAragon (talk) 22:33, 22 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Status of Georgian principalities/kingdoms

[edit]

Hi Kober, I hope you're doing well. I'm currently making a map of the Caucasus between the years 1791-1801, but I lack WP:RS regarding Mingrelia, Imeretia, Guria and Svanetia. You don't happen to possess some WP:RS that describes their status during this period? Were they still under Ottoman suzerainty, perhaps just de jure and/or de facto? Or were they fully independent? Thanks in advance. --HistoryofIran (talk) 01:14, 30 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Imeretia, Mingrelia, Guria, and Abkhazia were de jure Ottoman tributaries. The case of Svanetia is more complicated. By that time it was a politically fragmented region, but neither part of it owned any formal allegiance to the Ottomans. The relations between the Ottoman Empire and western Georgian polities is well described, eg., in Abou-El-Ha, Rifaʻat Ali (1984). The 1703 rebellion and the structure of Ottoman politics. Leiden: Nederlands Historisch-Archaeologisch Instituut te Istanbul. pp. 115–117. This article relates the earlier events and the de facto situation had changed on the ground since then, but de jure everything remained more or less the same. You can also consult this map from ARMENIA: A HISTORICAL ATLAS. Robert H. Hewsen (Chicago, 2001) and this Russian map, the source of which is unclear, but I suspect it is from a Soviet-era historical atlas. KoberTalk 06:16, 5 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Help?

[edit]

You seem to be one of the few editors working on Georgia and obviously from your contributions and talk page speak Georgian. In that regard, I have been working for some weeks on an article for Varia Kipiani, which is still in draft. It took a lot of work to figure out the museum she worked with in the 1910s, but I believe that is now sufficiently documented. I am still struggling with verifying the Italian monastery she was involved in establishing. Though I have searched records for Mikheil Tarkhnishvili [ka], I find nothing in his records that indicates what this might be (or even verify his involvement in such a scheme). I then thought that it might be a confusion with Ekvtime Takaishvili and his protection of Georgian cultural treasures, but I find no affiliation between him and Rome. Almost all of the sources in Georgian about Kipiani mention this archive, but I am hesitant to include it in the biography without being able to confirm that the event actually took place. Would you be able to look at the article and sources and perhaps identify what monastery they are speaking of? Any help would be appreciated. SusunW (talk) 23:17, 18 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@SusunW: Hello. I did some research and found a couple of sources on Michael Tachnishvili's design to establish a Georgian convent in Rome. It appears that Michael Tachnishvili (a transliteration that is far more common than the technically correct Mikheil Tarkhnishvili), a Rome-based Georgian Catholic priest and scholar, wanted to establish a Georgian Catholic college in Rome and turn it into a center of Georgian studies. During WW2, Georgian emigres associated with German intelligence approached him and helped him buy a villa on the Via Alessandro Brisse in the Monteverde Nuovo neighborhood for his planned institution. Germany apparently wanted to make the Georgian establishment a clandestine base for their spies in Vatican. When Tarchnishvili realized that, he refused to cooperate and the project eventually failed. Details can be found here[1] and here.[2] As for Kipiani, her only full-text Georgian biography available online says that she donated money and library to the Georgian convent/college in Rome, but its wording is rather vague and mentions the Georgian convent as if it was a functioning establishment, which is not true. The Georgian Soviet Encyclopedia—notwithstanding its inherent bias against Georgian emigres and political exiles—just reports that Kipiani donated the Murat family assets and their archive to Michael Tarchnishvili. To summarize, it appears that Tachnishvili was collecting money, documents, books, and artworks for his planned Georgian religious and cultural institution in Rome and Kipiani was one of those who came to support him. Hope this helps.--KoberTalk 13:12, 19 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

That helps a lot. Thank you so very much, I truly appreciate the help. It's been slow going trying to build this with sources in so many languages, (which I don't speak) but worth it I think to have a fairly complete biography. Would that I could find her death certificate or an actual death date, but I think that is not going to happen at this point. I am sure I would never have found those sources, so I am so glad that you were willing to help. It takes a village. SusunW (talk) 14:10, 19 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I have finished, except for working out the lede image. If you note anything that I improperly translated or transliterated, or any information which might need clarification or is in error, please let me know, or just fix it . Thank you so much for your help in sorting out the Italian connection. SusunW (talk) 18:42, 19 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You are welcome and kudos for your excellent work! --KoberTalk 18:45, 19 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much. I've wanted to write about her since I wrote Joteyko's article 3 years ago, but there just was so little biographical information digitized. When I finally discovered the Georgian sources that called her Barbare, I decided I would finally dive in. It was a joy to learn about her. SusunW (talk) 18:51, 19 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'm back. I found one more source, but I can't run it through a translator. If it were read-only, I could unlock that, but this allows you to copy but then pastes as for example: "gamo barbare erTxans garicxuli iyo universitetidan, rasac is, bunebrivia, Zalian ganicdida", i.e. pure gobbledegoop. My research tells me that Aneuli is a literary magazine, so I am wondering if the text contains something about her that I have not previously run across. The article starts on p 9 or 13 in the pdf numbering. It's kind of long to translate, but would you be willing to do that or compare what it says to the article I've written and add anything that is missing? Again, I appreciate your help. SusunW (talk) 15:05, 20 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Well, the problem with the text is that it uses a non-standard Georgian font known as AcadNusx. I looked through it and failed to find anything of importance that you have not included in your article except, probably, for the date of her death or, rather, the lack of clarity regarding it. The article says that while we know that Kipiani spend her last years in Belgium, neither the exact year of her death nor her resting place is known. The literary historian Vasil Chachanidze reported in 1974 that Kipiani died around 1965, but Rusudan Kobakhidze, director of the Museum of Georgian Emigration, recently proposed 1950 as the likely year of Kipiani's death. As of now, the problem remains unresolved, — the article concludes.[3]
Which explains why it made no sense to translation machines. That is helpful and significant, I think. Thank you so much! SusunW (talk) 16:35, 20 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Jandieri page

[edit]

Hi Kober, A new user has edited the page you created on the Jandieri family to say they are a ‘Russian noble family of Georgian noble origin’. They have also replaced the picture of Giorgi Jandieri with a Russian document. It obviously goes without saying how ridiculous and insulting this is to the Jandieri family. I’m not very familiar with Wikipedia, so I wondered if you could challenge this amendment and get it changed back? Best, Andy MailAndy (talk) 21:32, 28 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Mukhrani (disambiguation) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Disambiguation page not required (WP:ONEOTHER). Primary topic article has a hatnote to House of Mukhrani.

Persian and Georgian-Persian documents

[edit]

Hey Kober, long time no speak, hope all is well. Do you by any chance have access to images of Persian and bilingual Georgian-Persian documents issued by the Georgian valis/kings of the Safavid period? And of the Safavid appointed governors of Kakheti/Kartli? Best, - LouisAragon (talk) 17:47, 6 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@LouisAragon: good to hear from you! I'm fine. I hope you are also doing well. The documents of your interest were compiled and published a few years ago but, unfortunately, I do not currently have access to that project. Some are, however, available here and here. --KoberTalk 18:09, 6 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'm doing well, thanks! Just much more busy nowadays. Besides the chilly January wind, no complaints on my end though. Good to know you're doing fine too.
Wow, thanks a bunch for the link. That's a fantastic list of documents I haven't come across yet. Looks like some are already on Commons, but I'll make sure to upload the rest in the next few days. - LouisAragon (talk) 18:36, 7 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Btw, I observed that the initial link lacks additional details regarding the content of the letters. Is my understanding correct? Could you possibly obtain additional information on those listed documents? - LouisAragon (talk) 02:29, 8 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Kober, thank you for your message. Besides a bit of coughing (seems like everyone's dealing with that at the moment, right?), I can't complain too much. Hope you're doing well too.
Nice, that book will definitely be useful. Much appreciated! If you find more info/images, please don't hesitate to let me know. :-) - LouisAragon (talk) 14:49, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Family of Prince Alexander of Georgia

[edit]

Dear Kober and LouisAragon,

@LouisAragon:

Hope you are doing well.

In the family section of Prince Alexander of Georgia, his daughter is listed as Yelizaveta (1811– 1836), the second wife of Samson-Khan. According to reference L. Agniashvili "Persia and Georgians there", volume, 1896, p. 57, the Russian inscription of Yelizaveta's tomb refers to her as the daughter of "Tsarevich of Georgia Alexander of the Greek Catholic faith". We know Prince Alexander of Georgia was of the Georgian Orthodox Church, not the Greek Catholic faith.

It seems to me that Yelizaveta, was probably the daughter of another Prince Alexander. Also, the last name batonishvili was not written on Yelizaveta's tomb.

Agniashvili was looking for the grave of Prince Alexander batonishvili, so it is possible that he was misinformed, thus he had mistaken the two princes.

Agniashvili visited Yelizaveta's tomb in Tehran sometime around 1896, i.e. almost 60 years after Yelizaveta's death, so things can get forgotten and mixed up.

I suggest that someone takes a closer look at this one, and possibly remove Yelizaveta from the list of Prince Alexander's children.

Kind Regards, PrinceTehran (talk) 13:14, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
