Requested move
[edit]Bishop Strachan School → The Bishop Strachan School – The school's official name is The Bishop Strachan School, not Bishop Strachan School — Writerchick 20:47, 3 Apr 2005 (UTC)
If you go to the official website, you'll see that "the" is part of the name.
- Add *Support or *Oppose followed by an optional one sentence explanation and sign your vote with ~~~~
- Oppose A web-search shows numerous hits with no "the", or with lower-case the in running text. Naming conventions would indicate no "the" in article title. Alai 21:55, 3 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- Support Please check out the school's official website. Also, when an Old Girl (or current student) uses her school's full name, she would always use "the," meaning she'll say that she goes to/went to The Bishop Strachan School However, she may say that she goes to/went to Bishop Strachan or BSS. That's how things are. Writerchick 02:11, 7 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- Oppose. No need for a definite article, whether it's part of the official name or not. Agree with Alai's comment above. -- Necrothesp 10:23, 8 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- Support. The official name is "The Bishop Strachan School", which has been shortened on occasion - however diplomas are signed as "The Bishop Strachan School". -- 10:23, 11 Feb 2007
Interesting Facts
[edit]At Appleby College we call them Bitches in Sailor Skirts, not Suits. What school calls them suits? Why the hell would you say suit, when they wear skirts?
It was requested that this article be renamed but there was no consensus for it to be moved. violet/riga (t) 12:44, 8 Apr 2005 (UTC)
I'm a BSS Old Girl. The skirt and middy blouse combination is part of the school's Number One Dress. In the winter, students have the option of wearing pants, which were introduced around the late 90s, when I graduated from the school.
We always said Bitches in Sailor Shirts, because of the wierd shirts.
edit
[edit]took this part out, as it's quite clearly vandalism. "This is the BEST school in Canada, you should send your daughter to BSS because she will 1.get a GREAT education and 2. will make great friends! so just listen to me...SEND HER, especially if you want her to briefly attend the Cornell College of Engineering only to throw in the towel and transfer in with the rest of the dumbasses in the School of Industrial Labor Relations because BSS didn't teach her the concept of actually working to get grades". This user has a history of this (128.84.144.255 you know who you are) Jon the dodgeboy (talk) 03:03, 24 April 2010 (UTC)
Cleanup
[edit]I've responded to the long-standing request to cleanup the self-advertising aspects of the article. It still needs better citations and possibly some more cleanup. hgilbert (talk) 21:28, 4 November 2011 (UTC)
Alumni
[edit]The alumni section should include only those with Wikipedia articles or clearly qualified for one. If they have articles, link to them, if not remove then,m or indicate in a word or two why they are qualified and then write the articles. DGG ( talk ) 18:59, 8 November 2011 (UTC)
