Fine monorail picture
[edit]I wrote a monorail article in the Norwegian WP (it got recommended), and I am writing more. I like your picture showing how a monorail can go in narrow city streets, but it isn't accessible for the Norwegian WP nor Wikinfo. Would be nice if it were in the Commons. Or could I just copy it to the other wikis? Is it enough that your name is in the filename? I don't know how photographer crediting is done for such copying. OlavN 20:02, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
- Hi OlavN. Firstly, congratulations on the monorail article. The pictures I took of the Sydney Monorail are indeed available at Wikimedia Commons.
- Thanks for wanting to include one of them! :) Cheers - Gobeirne 22:59, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Sheesh. I'm not sure what to add to that. He sure is persistent. I've also reported him at Commons. I'm not sure what advice to give except to intercept and block when found. Anything you can think of that I can do to help I'll be more than glad. I do monitor Child and some other articles where he might lurk. I must say that for your fine detective work you deserve this:

Your question
[edit]I can't determine a user's IP address, only a checkuser can do that. If that's really his IP, it's blocked now anyway, the system will autoblock any IP addresses recently used by the accounts which were blocked for 24 hours. He's got a pretty obvious vandalism pattern, so if the problem does recur (from an anonymous editor or another sock account), please let me know. The edits from the anonymous editor didn't reveal any names, so that may have been a different editor using the same picture, but I'll keep an eye on it. Seraphimblade Talk to me 11:35, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
- I removed your message from WP:AIV because it didn't seem like the kind of clear cut vandalism I expected after reading your description, so I thought you were referring to another IP address. I understand it a bit better now, however, I do not think an indefinite block is called for. Those blocks are very, very rarely issued, as an IP almost never stays the same for ever. The IP appears to have gone quiet over the last couple of hours, if he starts again, I'll block. --JoanneB 11:48, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

image moving etc
[edit]I just came back to review your behaviour about images after several months and I'm wondering why it appears so different now to what it was back then. I thought consistency was important, and my views havent changed much, to me a pic is still worth a thousand words, and just becuase you have a pov about whether a pic is suitable or not is a bit of a lame reason to cut it out with discussion.
- "CGI is lightweight and easily transported. It was and still is widely used especially in rural and military buildings such as sheds and water tanks. It's very unique properties were used in the development of countries like Australia from the 1840's, and it is still helping developing countries today."
it seems to me that that pic illustrates at least TWO points in that statement from the article, both added by the same user.
- It seems to me that who ever places a pic in an article usually has good intent and for you to mess with that without reference to that person, is inviting an edit conflict. Fortunately i cant be bothered with that, I have a lot more activity an dmy own spaces to fill and share my awesome pics so i'm not giving any more to the wikipedia currently, its mainly cause i cant be bothered with the overhead to do it, and the conflict to keep them in the position that I, as an illustrator, see fit. My view is that if I'm generous enough to gift the image then some consideration could be taken into account when deciding to surgically remove or transplant them.. I wonder how the people who silently vote by never coming back think? I like that pic with the sheets on the bike trailer. I think it adds nice texture to the article. I cant help but wonder why you didnt push ALL the pics down into a 'gallery' that I personally find ugly and non useful, I cant understand why people like that. The other part of this that perplexes me, is why WASTE your editing energy in such ways, given the HUGE tasks out there, the VAST field of articles needing real and urgent work to clean up and add to? thats bugged me for nearly two years now, it seems much more obvious to fix up clearly needful articles, why pick on the articles that are only slightly in need? Its not about you, my pondering is about many editors. I'm also trying to assess how wikipedia may have progressed since i got a bit of bad taste from the surgical processes that i felt were unnecessary and unfair. The purpose of that is to try and ensure that my own contribution is useful and sustainable, I cant bear waste, and i want to add stuff that is likely to stick for a while. another point is that while youre in an article you could fix the other obvious errors for instance the three red links in that article? moza 11:21, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
Belginusanl
[edit]Thanks for the note you left on my talk page! It's nice to know that the bit of sleuthing I did was appreciated :-) I also saw the note you made and then deleted from that page and I have to admit, I agree on both points... One, that this guy's pattern of vandalism is seriously creepy, and two, that at this point there's really nothing to report. I hope most of all that he's just creepy and not actually doing anything harmful, but if it is worse than that, then I hope that he slips up some time and posts an image that's bad enough that there IS something to report to authorities somewhere. So, for what it's worth, you're not the only one who's picked up on the disturbing nature of this case. --Icarus (Hi!) 06:45, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

svg logos
[edit]Thing about svg logos is that they can be stretched without losing quality (which is important for fair use, that image is of high quality which does depict the subject in true manner) but that they are also in their original upload form of low resolution (not like 800px stretch you showed). --Avala (talk) 00:02, 24 December 2007 (UTC)

Kosovo term
[edit]Thanks for the input. In Kosovo they have huge problem with the name, they are now teaching in schools that it was Kosova before and then changed to Kosovo by Serbs. Also they are now insisting on new term Dardania (Roman name for the area around today's Kosovo). Of course it makes sense as much as saying New Zealand name is not based on Dutch province but on (insert random fantasy here). Regards, --Avala (talk) 10:58, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Manchester Courts
[edit]Hello Greg, thanks for adding the photos to Manchester Courts. I use the flickr upload tool for getting free flickr images onto Commons, and when I came across this set of photos, it told me that the licence isn't suitable. I checked manually and that seemed to be the case (unfortunately). Given that you work with photos a lot, is your understanding of the licensing requirements different? Schwede66 23:41, 10 October 2010 (UTC)
- Hi - the original license was "non-commercial", which isn't suitable. I asked the photographer to change the licences to one of the permissable ones, and she did, which is great. It was only changed this morning, so it probably wasn't suitable when you looked with the upload tool. Cheers - Gobeirne (talk) 23:57, 10 October 2010 (UTC)
- Good work! Didn't spot that the licence had changed. Schwede66 00:54, 11 October 2010 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of File:JarrahFence gobeirne.jpg
[edit]A tag has been placed on File:JarrahFence gobeirne.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". New Challenge for Oceania and Australia
[edit]Hi, Wikipedia:WikiProject Oceania/The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Australia/The 5000 Challenge are up and running based on Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge which has currently produced over 2300 article improvements and creations. The Australia challenge would feed into the wider region one and potentially New Zealand could have a smaller challenge too. The main goal is content improvement, tackling stale old stubs and important content and improving sourcing/making more consistent but new articles are also welcome if sourced. I understand that this is a big goal for regular editors, especially being summertime where you are, but if you'd like to see large scale quality improvements happening for Oceania and Australia like The Africa Destubathon, which has produced over 1700 articles in 5 weeks, sign up on the page. The idea will be an ongoing national editathon/challenge for the region but fuelled by a series of contests to really get articles on every province and subject mass improved. The Africa contest scaled worldwide would naturally provide great benefits to Oceania countries, particularly Australia and attract new editors. I would like some support from existing editors here to get the Challenges off to a start with some articles to make doing a Destubathon worthwhile and potentially bring about hundreds of improvements in a few weeks through a contest! Cheers.♦ --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 02:12, 24 November 2016 (UTC)

There's heaps of interesting stuff to work on e.g. the oldest extant waka or New Zealand's oldest ongoing legal case. Or you may spend your time taking photos and then upload them.
Golden Bay is hard to get to and the airline flying into Tākaka uses small planes, so we are holding some seats from and to Wellington and we are offering attendees a $200 travel subsidy to help with costs.
Be in touch with Schwede66 if this event interests you and you'd like to discuss logistics. Schwede66 09:14, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
