In Europe...

[edit]

In Europe Freddy Got Fingered didn't receive universal praise, but it didn't get panned either. From memory critics were much less critical than the US press. It may be worth an ardent archive searcher seeking out some world reviews, and if they were less critical than North American reviewers stating clearly that it was universally panned by US critics. A bit anal but it's a big difference.

Given that the movie only made $78,000 worldwide (in non-US markets)[1], I doubt it made much of a splash. Random guy 18:24, 19 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

During the course of the film, we are introduced to various other subplots that catelogs Gord's daily experiences. These however are largely one-dimensional slap-stick sequences

That is false. The scenes involving the neighbour boy getting hurt could be categorized as slap-stick but apart from that I can't distinguish any slap-stick at all. //Sarnath

Backwards man

[edit]

The backwards man section is based on a merge from backwards man. If you feel that it's "pointless", I would certainly understand, but please discuss here, so that others have a chance to comment. For my part, I'd like to see a citation on the claim that it's widely referenced, and perhaps see it shortened a bit. -Harmil 15:05, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"Despite the film's pitiful showing at the box-office, this scene remains one of the more referred to and popular scenes."
In my opinion, the "Daddy would you like some sausage" scene is way more popularily associated with and more referenced to the film than the Backwards man scene! Amchow78 18:21, 3 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I suggest removing the section. "this scene remains one of the more referred to and popular scenes" That is unverifiable (and more importantly unverified). WP:V. I'll do it if nobody objects. ~a (usertalkcontribs) 21:41, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Intended effect?

[edit]

"In a damning review, film critic Roger Ebert wrote that the film may more likely be seen one day as a 'milestone of neo-surrealism' than funny. In this memorable scene, Gord ties sausage to his fingers, plays the piano poorly, and chants: 'Daddy, would you like some sausage?'" What exactly is this getting at? I don't think it's meant as sarcasm, but it's hard to even say this out loud with a straight face. It almost comes across like a satirical evaluation of how the movie is "artistic". If I had to guess, I'd say this was exactly the intention, except with the word "satirical" replaced with the word "laughable". Short version: Whoever wrote this might want to rephrase it to avoid self-parody.71.162.2.215 (talk) 17:52, 9 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
