Huygens and "coined"

[edit]

Huygens published/presented his scientific works in Latin and French. I spent some time looking for anything he may have penned in English and have not found a single thing. Hence, I am quite doubtful that he "coined" any English word. As of yet, I have also not found any translation of Huygens work where the translator used the word "entrainment." 3piecesuits (talk) 17:17, 30 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Anyone with more competence than yours truely wish to add something about the alternative meaning, viz. transportation of sediment in fluid?

menstrual synchrony

[edit]

It's not certain that this phenomenon really exists. See http://www.straightdope.com/columns/021220.html 193.71.196.238 03:13, 31 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed; I'm yanking it. Ojcit 18:51, 2 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
In any case, there are better, more quantifiable, and less, er, graphic examples. Ojcit 18:53, 2 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

retitle this article

[edit]

Isn't this process known more commonly as synchronisation or resonance? Subtitling it as physics is very confusing, as entrainment is far more commonly known as a process in fluid dynamics, which is also within physics. Alternatively, could this page be retitled as entrainment_(oscillators) to avoid this confusion?

Entrainment in fluid mechanics is a very commonly known process in which adjacent bodies of fluid exchange fluid into the more turbulent body of fluid. I think having the physics article on entrainment being about Chogg (talk) 20:33, 8 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
