Shifting Biography requests to other page

Given that there's an entire list just for requested biographies, does anyone object to moving all requested articles about specific people to Wikipedia:Requested articles/Biographies? That'll make this rather long page more manageable. This page, in general, could use a lot of re-org, so I might come back and chip away at it if work is slow. Reduced from 170kB to 127kB by moving out Biographies, moving Defunct Military Academies to subpage, and deleting fulfilled requests

The list was getting pretty huge, so I managed to trip it by nearly a third though the above changes, as well as categorizing and recategorizing quite a few chunks. I'm guessing maybe five hours total over the course of the last two days. It was actually a lot of fun, and I incidentally learned a lot of new things as I wandered through the topics, so recommend it highly. If anyone else has any suggestions as to how to make this page flow better, that'd be great. I do think we can sort/neaten the Political Topics section better. Maybe make a couple more subsections like "Political Parties", "Militant and Terrorist groups", etc? Making some sexy categories like "Terrorist groups" might help get people's attention in filling requests. MatthewVanitas (talk) 19:14, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

Request to Fragment Article

Any chance we can break up the article into separate pages? I'd like to watch the "Psychology" section, but have to parse through every change to "Social science" to see it. Seems reasonable to break up the page. Anyone else agree? --1000Faces (talk) 18:19, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

The page is getting big, but if we're going to pick sections to put into sub-pages, think of it this way:

• Psych - 10 screens' worth (rough measure)
• Society/culture - 12 screens
• Politics - 14 screens
• Religion - 20 screens

I would submit that moving religion to its own sub-page would be the most effective way to trim down the page, with moving Politics being the next choice. EDIT: the main page is only 124K, I don't personally find that unmanageable. MatthewVanitas (talk) 15:26, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

Wuptaki Ruins, Arizona

I see someone has requested an article on "Wuptaki Ruins in Arizona" in section 5.2. I believe they are mispelling Wupatki, as in Wupatki National Monument which is already on the wiki. I'm too much of a newbie to feel comfortable deleting it from the list, but I'm nearly positive that it's the same topic. Merbert (talk) 21:18, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

Palinism

On 26 September I added a request here for Palinism, "nominally, the philosophy of candidate Sarah Palin - 7,000+ Google hits on 25 Sept 2008." (Has 9,000+ ghits today, 3 October).
On 28 September 2008 User:Horologium deleted this with the comment "Removed salted topic."
If you click on Palinism you see the note/rationale "deleted "Palinism" (G10: Attack page or negative unsourced BLP: Neologism).
Perhaps some existing article Palinism had problems, but IMHO that's not justification for salting it -- just fix it.
At Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Politics I suggested that Palinism should just redirect to the existing, non-salted article Political positions of Sarah Palin. This seems perfectly reasonable to me.

The problem was not so much with your suggestion, but rather what was there when I speedy deleted it; it was not a discussion of Palin's beliefs, but rather an attack on Palin's speaking style, with a link to Bushism, and similar text. I discovered your link in the requested articles section hours later, and removed it because the term had been salted. I salted it because anything other than a protected redirect is likely to turn into another version of the article I deleted, and because there is no currency for the term outside of blogs and other opinion sites. A Google news search a moment ago returned 28 hits, most of which were op/ed columns or blogs. Someone who is interested in Sarah Palin's political views will more likely search Sarah Palin (which has a handy link to the political views page) than Palinism. "Palinism" is likely to remain confined to bloggers, which are not reliable sources and cannot be used to establish notability or substantiate statements made in Wikipedia articles. Wikipedia is not a soapbox, and that includes using it to support or oppose a candidate for office. Horologium (talk) 12:21, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

Rape education, Rape prevention, Rape crisis counselor

I'm surprised that none of the above three articles currently exist. I see hundreds of thousands of Google hits. There's even a request for an article on the Clothesline project in this section. Would someone please find an appropriate place to list these articles as requested? - I didn't see a logical place to do so (I put Rape education and Rape prevention under Education, but perhaps they should be grouped together). This page is a beast

This page is a beast. It's 151 kilobytes - the table of contents is over 3000 characters for FSM's sake! I have managed to chew off the first couple of sections of the Governance / etc. section, but it's been a slow process. We need to do something. I see three options:

1. We split this article up into multiple smaller articles.
2. We archive all of the old requests.
3. We leave it as it is.

Note that none of these deals with clearing the backlog. For that, I have a couple of ideas I have been thinking about:

1. Start a WP:WikiProject Requested Articles that would manage all of the requested articles pages, have barnstars, competitions, etc.
2. Instead of a WikiProject, start a backlog drive, something along the lines of the Wikipedia:WikiProject Good articles/GAN backlog elimination drives.
3. Create a template for requests that would be something like {{la}} but with more - this wouldn't clear out articles but I think it would help make future requests easier to fill.

Now, I'm pretty sure there's practically nobody who watches this page. This is the WikiWilderness out here. Anybody that is watching this page - do you have any thoughts? Bsimmons666 (talk) 22:00, 21 February 2009 (UTC)

Dyuktai Cave

Dyuktai Cave is located in the Aldan River valley in northeast Siberia. The cave is a karst cavity formed in limestone, with a surface area of about 60 m2. It is the type site for the Dyuktai culture, an early northeast Asian culture that is characterized by a blade and core technology. The Dyuktai Cave site contains evidence of Pleistocene occupation between about 16,000 – 12,000 years BP. The three Pleistocene levels contained 316 implements and fragments of various blade cores, burins, and projectile points. A bone awl-like tool and a hammer made of reindeer antler were also recovered. Faunal remains included mammoth, reindeer, wolf, and other small animals, but evidence of human activity seems to be restricted to the mammoth remains that were found. Removed "CoochCoach" entry

Wurzelwicht
