Consistent citation style

[edit]

This article uses a variety of citation styles and methods. If anyone wants to establish a "consistent citation style", a consensus should be reached using this talk page. Personally, I do not care. It may be impossible to reach a consensus on Wikipedia.

Until that time, I will continue to use the existing citation styles and methods. I may change a ref/citation from one method to another as I deem appropriate.

  • I will use sfnp templates to obtain a consistent format for short foot notes. And I will upgrade citations in the "Books cited in text" section with templates to obtain a consistent format and facilitate links.
  • I may update citations using sources in the "Books cited in text" section to short foot notes.
  • I will update incomplete/incorrect citations as I encounter them. I may update incomplete citations to short foot notes and a new source in the "Books cited in text" section.
  • I may implement citation templates to obtain consistent format.
  • I intend to add only books to the "Books cited in text" section.
  • I doubt I will remove any templates.

Ancient Baroque

[edit]

How does everyone feel about maybe adding a small section about baroque in the ancient Graeco-Roman world to the article? The term is used by historians to describe certain artistic styles in ancient Hellenistic and Roman architecture, sculpture, literature, etc. which share characteristics with baroque proper, such as the sense of movement and exuberant ornamentation. However, it's not directly related to modern baroque so I was thinking of maybe just adding a short section at the end after Section 12? Not-A-Kitty (talk) 16:20, 3 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Use of the term not relating to the baroque period is outside the scope of this article; a mention in the "Origin" section (which perhaps might be expanded very slightly to "Origin and usage") should suffice for other more general applications of the term, perhaps? --jpgordon𝄢𝄆𝄐𝄇 16:31, 3 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The origin section would be the wrong place, implying that early modern baroque was influenced by the ancient styles, which isn't usually thought to be the case - except in architecture perhaps. I think a short section would be ok. 17:52, 3 January 2023 (UTC)
There's a reason I suggested changing the name of the section to "origin and usage", since the broader usage both predates and postdates the baroque period, and is by no means exclusive to the discussion of the ancient world. --jpgordon𝄢𝄆𝄐𝄇 20:16, 3 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
